Worship Ministry
We believe that Worship is our response to God, personally and corporately, for who He is and for the great things that He has done. We desire to worship God personally by living lives that are pleasing to God (Romans 12:1), by reading and meditating upon His Word, and through constant prayer (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
One of the main ways that we worship corporately is through music. Although music is not in and of itself, worship, it is a command by God and demonstrated throughout the Bible (Psalm 95:1, Psalm 96:2, Psalm 98:4, Psalm 105:2, I Chronicles 15-16, Ephesians 5:19-20), and is a powerful way to approach God.
Services
Over the course of three services each Sunday morning, we have the privilege of singing and worshiping God through two musical dialects, which we commonly refer to as Classic and Contemporary.
The Classic Service, which meets at 8:45 am is a choir, organ, and piano driven service that focuses on using the great hymns and anthems of the faith. On any given Sunday morning, the Worship Choir and Will James, will lead the church in songs chosen to point our hearts to God and prepare us for His Word. In addition, the choir joins with the Worship Team once every six weeks as we seek to sing the praises of our Lord together. The Classic Service is also where you will find soloists, special musical pieces, and seasonal orchestras.
The Contemporary Services meet at 10:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. These services are band driven and led by the Worship Team. Although called contemporary, we focus on singing songs, both ancient and modern that express our faith and great love, for and in Jesus Christ.
No matter what the style, whether piano or guitar, soft or loud, melodic or rhythmic, we believe that God receives glory when His people sing His praises (Psalm 66:2). We will not succumb to any dividing arguments over form (Psalm 133:1, Romans 15:5, Ephesians 4), rather, we will choose to live in the unifying understanding that God has been worshiped in many ways and with many different instruments throughout history, and is solely concerned with the posture of our hearts, not the style of our music (Romans 15:5-7).
GET CONNECTED In WORSHIP
Besides being a significant part of the "congregational choir" each week, there are opportunities to help lead in worship through music at First Irving.
If you are a trained, even gifted musician, there is a place for you.
If you love to sing, but can’t read a note of music, there is a place for you.
If you are a rusty band or orchestra person, there is a place for you.
If you love the traditional sounds of handbells, there is a place for you.
If you love teaching young children about God’s love for them (through music), there is a place for you.
Come be a part of what God is doing in this weekly ministry
