College Ministry

In the College Ministry at First Irving, our goal is the same goal Jesus has: that our lives would be changed by the Gospel of Christ, and would result in the Glory of Christ. We believe that happens as each of us humbly submits to Jesus, the scriptures, his local church family expressed at First Irving, and each other.

Community Groups

We believe that the Christian life is to be lived in biblical community.  Community Groups are small groups of students that meet in apartments, homes, townhomes, and dorms. The mission of Community Groups is to grow the gospel in our hearts and to advance His kingdom on earth. They are not centered around community, but on Christ. These groups meet weekly to pray together, study the Word together, eat together, serve together, share the gospel together, and simply live life together. This is the expression we see in ACTS and the early church, and we believe it is God's way for us to grow most effectively and bond most deeply.

If you are interested in attending a community group please contact Jonathan Galvan.

New Spring Series - Reformation: God's War on Man's Religion

About 500 years ago, a German monk walked up to a church in Germany and nailed a huge document to its doors. Martin Luther had spent rigorous hours studying the Bible and began to uncover an entirely different religion than the one he had been taught. He re-discovered a religion of Grace, Faith, Truth, Purity, and the Glory of God.The more he studied the Bible, the further it strayed from his church's teaching.

A few centuries later we call this part of history the Reformation. In reality, it was more of a spiritual revival! A return to the gospel of the Bible! Men had the courage to read the Bible and question their own beliefs. As they did, they began to uncover a wicked and dark vein of man-made religion. This Reformation was not about religions fighting against each other. It was much more Powerful and global than that. It was about God's constant war on man's self-righteous religion.

The Reformation is not over. It will not be over until Jesus comes back. God's war on man's religion is fought in every generation, every church, and every heart. We hope you'll join us during this 5 week series as we learn from courageous men of the past, uncover sin in our own hearts and pray for revival in our lives and our church.

FAQ:

I'm a college student and I want to get involved, what should I do?

The easiest place to start is by coming to our College Bible Fellowship (CBF) on Sundays. This is every Sunday, downstairs in the Fellowship Hall at 10:00 AM. This is the first place to connect with others, hear the Word and find opportunities to serve.

I've been coming for a while and I keep hearing about becoming a member of the church. What's that all about?*

Membership is a priority at First Irving. We believe committing your life to a local body is, by Jesus' design, the best way for you to invest in the Kingdom of God, and to grow as a disciple of Christ. Marriages work best when the members of a marriage are fully committed to each other in the good times and bad. Churches also work best when members are fully committed to each other in good times and bad. (See Acts 2 & 4)

You can become a member of First Irving by coming forward at the end of the Worship Service and talking with one of the pastors. To be a member of First Irving you need to confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and be baptized in His name by immersion. If you have questions, contact Jason.

I need to fulfill some ministry or community service hours for my scholarship. What can I do at First Irving?

First, you should identify a specific area of ministry or service that you feel the most passionate about. Second, identify your spiritual gifts to make sure that you are being used most effectively. Then contact Janelle Hartsfield or the specific ministry leader. We want every college student to find a place to serve, and we will do whatever we can to help. (Some ministries require a background check and a certain level of spiritual, emotional, and social maturity.)
